『Lizard』は、1970年にリリースされたキング・クリムゾンの3作目であり、プログレッシヴ・ロック史上でも最も挑戦的で抽象度の高い作品の一つ。ジャズ的インプロヴィゼーションと、クラシカルな構成美が融合し、幻想的かつ不安定な音楽空間を構築している。ジョン・アンダーソン（Yes）のゲスト参加による第1曲「Prince Rupert Awakes」や、組曲形式のタイトル曲では、管弦楽器やピアノの使用が際立ち、まるで現代音楽を聴くような感覚に陥る。メロトロン、変拍子、不協和音が溶け合いながら進行するこの作品は、リスナーに「聴く覚悟」を強いる異端の傑作である。
