1961年のヴィレッジ・ヴァンガードでのライブ音源を収録したアルバム。録音の10日後のスコット・ラファロの事故死はあまりに悲しい出来事だった。
1958年のマイルス・グループを抜け、自身にとって唯一無二の二人の盟友と共に録音した今作ではビル・エヴァンスの、ポール・モチアンの、そしてスコット・ラファロの最高最強の演奏に出会える。ラファロのラスト演奏は姉妹作「サンデイ・アット・ザ・ヴィレッジ・ヴァンガード」に追悼盤として収録。本作の方がよりエヴァンス色が強い選曲となっている。
