"I Can Tell" coolly intertwines Reck's groovy, undulating bass and Tsunematsu Masatoshi's sharp guitar, led by Chico Hige's solid drumming. This sophisticated yet freaky sound could only have been created by Reck and Hige, who both experienced the New York no wave scene. The coupling track "Pistol," not included on "Friction," is a devastating single recorded on cassette tape that captures the wild, speedy live performance of Friction at the time.
