Dancehall Crashers' ska-punk revival
High-energy sound from a mixed-gender band from California.
As one of the bands that represent the ska revival movement of the '90s, they beautifully blend the aggressiveness of punk with the rhythms of ska. The interplay between male and female vocalists adds dynamism to the songs, and the use of horn sections is also effective. This important work also played a role in introducing the appeal of '60s Jamaican music to younger listeners, and served as a bridge between genres.
