Lou Reed's socially conscious masterpiece that pierces urban reality
A concept album by Lou Reed depicting social issues in the city of New York. Featuring a simple band arrangement, it includes the modern rock chart-topping track "Dirty Blvd."
Lou Reed, who has been depicting cities since his days with the Velvet Underground, once again takes New York as his theme in this work. With a hard sound featuring only two guitars and a rhythm section, he sharply portrays the dark side of modern society, including AIDS, racial issues, and political corruption. His signature song, "Dirty Blvd.", reached number one on the US Modern Rock chart. The lyrics, poetically told in a documentary-like style, are striking, and musically, it demonstrates the integrity of rock 'n' roll, a return to its roots. This is a milestone in socially conscious rock that has been highly praised by critics.
