A confident touch, a core of swing, and emotion that seeps through dynamism.
Ryo Fukui arrives in New York and explores the essence of bop together with the rhythm section of Barry Harris, whom he regards as his mentor.
Ryo Fukui passed away in 2016, leaving behind only five albums. This is his fourth, recorded in 1999. Recorded in New York with Lyle Atkinson (bass) and Leroy Williams (drums), the rhythm section of his mentor Barry Harris, this masterpiece fully conveys Fukui's appeal as a bop pianist. The selection and composition, centered around standards, as well as his playing, are full of enthusiasm and power. His confident, powerful touch, his core and resilient swing, and the emotion and lyricism that permeate his dynamism are evident in this vivid sound, immersing you in Fukui's breath and determination. A re-performance of his signature song, "Mellow Dream," is also a delight. Text by Yusuke Ogawa (UNIVERSOUNDS / DEEP JAZZ REALITY) *"Made in Japan" quality is gaining global attention. The album is luxuriously crafted using "uncolored virgin vinyl," eliminating any coloring materials such as carbon that can affect sound quality. Using only high-purity straight vinyl chloride as the raw material, and increasing the disc weight to 180g, we have achieved stable rotation and a rich sound field expression. The "180g heavy disc/pure vinyl" specification allows you to enjoy a refined sound image.
