"Am I Your Woman?", a cover of the Chi-Lites' "Are You My Woman (Tell Me So)," famously used as the inspiration for Beyonce's "Crazy In Love," featuring Leah Currie on vocals, has been released as a 7-inch single!
The B-side includes a cover of Night Blooming Jazzmen's "Nam M'Yoho Ren'Ge Kyo," which is being released on vinyl for the first time!
Speedometer is a jazz-funk band representing the UK. On the last day of their Japan tour in 2005, they visited Osaka, where they danced all night at a club on the fourth floor of a building. From their third album, Four Flights Up, named after the memory of the night, they cover the famous Chi-Lights' Are You My Woman (Tell Me So), which is also the source material for Beyonce's Crazy In Love, with Leah Currie on vocals. This is a great cover with a more tarnished groove and Leah's powerful singing. The B-side is a cover of the killer jazz-funk Nam M'Yoho Ren'Ge Kyo, which was included on the self-titled album by the Night Blooming Jazzmen, which was planned by jazz critic Leonard Feather and recorded by Mainstream all-stars such as Blue Mitchell, Charles Kaynard, and Paul Humphrey. This is a great performance that is tight and funky from the opening drum break to the perfectly synchronized horn phrases!
