Lou Reed, who has been depicting cities since his days with the Velvet Underground, once again takes New York as his theme in this work. With a hard sound featuring only two guitars and a rhythm section, he sharply portrays the dark side of modern society, including AIDS, racial issues, and political corruption. His signature song, "Dirty Blvd.", reached number one on the US Modern Rock chart.
