After a troubled adolescence, Missy formed an R&B group called Fayze with her friends, and their a capella caught the attention of members of Jodeci, leading to their debut. They later changed the group's name to Siata, but the group ended due to label troubles. After that, Missy, whose talent was discovered by Timbaland and Faith Evans, made her solo debut.
