Bluesy hard bop with a strong vibe

This is a leader album by vibraphonist Milt Jackson, known for his work with the Modern Jazz Quartet (MJQ). Unlike the MJQ, this was recorded with a large ensemble that included a horn section.

Milt Jackson's vibraphone plays a melody rich with a blues feel. Solo exchanges with wind players Cannonball Adderley (alto) and Frank Foster (tenor) add heat to the album. Quincy Jones' arrangements combine the richness of a big band with the sharpness of hard bop. On the title track, "Plenty, Plenty Soul," each soloist delivers a dynamic performance over a funky riff.
