The rich musical expression established by Giulini and the majestic sound of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra create a vivid impression of two of the greatest masterpieces of 20th century classical music.
This album features some of the finest performances by the famous Italian conductor Carlo Maria Giulini, who led one of the world's most prestigious orchestras, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, in the 1970s.
This program juxtaposes two masterpieces with different worldviews: Pictures at an Exhibition, an orchestral arrangement of Modest Mussorgsky's Piano Suite by Maurice Ravel, and Symphony No. 1 in D major, Op. 25 "Classical", a masterpiece from Sergei Prokofiev's youth.
