Singer/guitarist Eddie C. Campbell is truly one of the "Chicago West Side" artists, following in the footsteps of Otis Rush, Magic Sam, and Buddy Guy.
This is Campbell's masterpiece and a hidden gem of Chicago blues from this era. This is the first time this has been reissued on LP, and the original artwork of the rare and impactful "King of the Jungle" is also a masterpiece!
At the tender age of 12, Campbell performed with Muddy Waters, and played with such illustrious artists as Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf, Little Johnny Taylor, Jimmy Reed, Koko Taylor, and Magic Sam, among others, and was especially influenced by Magic Sam, who was his neighbor. This was his late debut album, released in 1977 on critic/producer Steve Wiesner's label, Mr. Blues. With the powerful sound of skilled members such as Carrie Bell (headliner), Lafayette Leake (piano), Bob Stroger (bass), and Clifton James (drums), Campbell showcases his smoky, lively vocals and inventive guitar playing with a purple Jazzmaster and a lot of reverb.
