With her original album "Shu Shine" released in 2024, Terao Saho has traveled all over Japan, East Asia, and even Mongolia and Honduras. The cover album released in early summer 2025 will be available on vinyl this fall!
A selection of 13 songs, mainly work songs that have been sung throughout Japan since ancient times, are brought back to life in the modern era by musicians such as Adachi Reizaburo, Iga Wataru, Utashima Masatomo, Kobayashi Utena, Kondo Tatsuro, Choi Jaecheol, Yabu Kumiko, Okuma Wataru, Otonashi Fumiya, and Altangerel Undarmaa.
She also performed a duet with Yuta Orisaka on "Aragure," a traditional festival song from Iwate. This album features songs Terao discovered while traveling around the country for live performances and songs she encountered while researching art projects, including some already familiar from her live performances. While describing the harsh conditions of the time, such as the hardships of farm work and the vulnerable position of female factory workers, each song exudes a certain humorous quality or a magical refrain, exuding the strength and dignity that have survived in song form. Following "My Favorite Nursery Rhymes" (2016) and "My Favorite Nursery Rhymes 2" (2020), these are songs that Terao Saho is determined to pass on to future generations. These songs, which accompanied people during the days when work was physically demanding, were born in an environment far removed from modern life. However, with the richness of Japan's unique rhythms and the beauty of its melodies, they transcend time and space and are passed down to the present generation through this album.
