It is no exaggeration to say that Maazel is synonymous with the "Symphonie Fantastique." A perfect performance.
This is said to be a masterpiece, with Hector Berlioz conducting Berlioz's "Symphonie Fantastique OP14" and working with The Cleveland Orchestra.
This is a re-recording from 1982 by TELARC, a label that is particular about recordings. The bells in the fifth movement were recorded by setting up a microphone in the bell tower of Covenant Church, more than one kilometer away from Severance Hall, where the orchestra is located, and connecting the microphone to the recording hall with a cable of about 458 meters. A huge bell with a diameter of more than one meter was struck simultaneously with the orchestra.
