This is one ideal that Nakamura Seiichi has arrived at. The saxophone, soaring freely like a bird, liberates the listener and leads them to a new world.
During his time with the Yamashita Yosuke Trio, he poured his whole body and soul into every note. In the early 1970s, he blew powerfully, weaving inspiration and impulse into his melodies. Now, with this album, Nakamura Seiichi has undergone yet another transformation.
As Nakamura himself said, "It's like we're all sharing the same space, soaring freely like birds. That's my ideal." The overlapping sounds and gaps in the music create a rich, swelled atmosphere, through which Nakamura's saxophone sweeps freely. Nakamura's ideals are beautifully embodied in tracks like the expansive and refreshing "Wolf's Theme," inspired by the composer Kazumasa Hirai's "Wolf Guy" series; "Harappa," with its laid-back groove and nostalgic melody; "Body & Soul" and "I Can't Get Started," which weave standards meticulously and elegantly; and "Viva Giappone," with its vibrant and liberating feel. Other performers include Toshiyuki Daitoku, Aki Takase, and Ryojiro Furusawa. [Text by Yusuke Ogawa (UNIVERSOUNDS / DEEP JAZZ REALITY)]
