Al Johnson, a Washington DC singer best known for producing Terry Huff's classic album "The Lonely One," has released his masterpiece debut album, "Peaceful," in 1978, on LP for the first time! This truly refreshing album is a true classic.
He debuted as the lead singer of The Unifixes in the 1960s, and his 1980 album Back for More (Columbia), produced by Norman Connors, is also highly popular. This is his debut album, released in 1978 on a minor label called Marina.
Surprisingly, the album was produced by Lloyd Price (along with Nate Adams and Al Johnson himself), a singer known for numerous R&R/R&B classics from the 1950s. Featuring Bernard Purdie on drums and, surprisingly, Leo Nocentelli of the Meters on guitar, Terry Huff also contributes on the chorus. From the naturally swaying, soothing medium tempo of "I've Got My Second Wind" and the heartwarming ballad of the title track "Peaceful," to the Philly soul-tinged "It's Not Too Late," the heartbreaking ballad "I'll Do Anything For You" with its melancholic chorus by Terry Huff, and the Marvin Gaye-esque "What's Going On"-inspired "Since You Walked Out Of My Life," this album boasts a level of perfection that's hard to believe it's from a local label. It's a genuine masterpiece with no throwaway tracks!
