A recording that captures the traditional tone of the Vienna Philharmonic and the leadership of Karl Böhm.
This 12-inch vinyl contains recordings made in June 1954 by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Karl Böhm. It was re-released in 1970.
Beginning with a profound tremolo from the strings, the Vienna Philharmonic's distinctive wind instruments are layered on top of each other. Karl Böhm avoids excessive ornamentation and maintains a faithful tempo to the score, supporting the overall composition. The rich reverberations of the Musikverein are recorded in No. 8, while the light ensemble of No. 5 is reminiscent of a small ensemble. This recording features recordings by the engineers who supported Decca in its golden age.
