The origins of the legendary genius Chris Hillman
This album contains rare recordings from 1963 by a group that included Chris Hillman, who later became a member of the Byrds.
This is a valuable recording capturing the youthful talent of a young Chris Hillman as a teenager, before he formed the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers. His mandolin, with its sharp attack, adds a unique driving force to traditional phrases, tightening the band's overall tone. The beautiful harmonies of brothers Vern and Rex Gosdin and the selection of songs, including Bob Dylan's work, reflect the spread of West Coast bluegrass at the time. The seeds of the musicality that would later develop into folk rock can be heard everywhere.
