Jeff Tweedy, frontman of Chicago rock band Wilco, has released his first new album in five years, "Twilight Override," a three-disc set, since 2020's "Love Is The King"!
Recorded and self-produced at Chicago studio The Loft, with engineering and mixing by Tom Schick, the album was produced with friends and family in Chicago.
The three-disc set is comprised of three independent chapters, each of which ties together a narrative of the past, present, and future. Album opener "One Tiny Flower" is a propulsive, whimsical tale of a man who trips over a flower and dies. "Out in the Dark" reflects on the songwriting process through a tale of a moonless planet. "Stray Cats in Spain" is one of the album's most personal tracks. The radio single "Enough" is Twilight Override's meditative closer, a "summation," as Tweedy puts it: "This song is the light you're aiming for throughout the album. This is the light you're aiming for throughout the record. You're never going to be completely okay. You can't completely fill yourself with everything you love. You're endless, deep, and greedy—if you're doing it right. Stop dwelling on things you can't control." Jeff Tweedy didn't intentionally plan a cohesive narrative for the album, but after several listens, it became clear that there were connections between the songs. "I didn't have a whole story for the album planned, but the way this album ended up coming together and arranged tells the story I wanted to tell. That's my process. So, aside from the tempo and the music, this order just felt right to me. To have the music all come together and sound like this is even more amazing than I could have ever imagined. It sounds like a mosaic and smells like pomade."
