DarWin emerged onto the scene in 2018. While their profile remains shrouded in mystery, their debut album, "Origin of the Species," transcends the boundaries of progressive metal with its rich melodies, dramatic developments, exceptional musicianship, and grandiose cosmic vision, winning widespread support. The album also drew significant attention for the involvement of Simon Phillips, drummer known for his work with Jeff Beck, Michael Schenker, and Toto, not only as a performer but also as a co-producer. DarWin has since collaborated with such talented musicians as Billy Sheehan (Mr. BIG), Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater), and Guthrie Govan (Aristocrats). In 2024, they will release their new album, "Five Steps on the Sun." While DarWin's previous work explores global concepts such as human evolution and climate change, this album takes them beyond the atmosphere. "One Step On The Sun," "Five Steps On The Sun," and "The Sun" are suite-style tracks that reinforce instrumental parts, creating a solar-system-scale epic. In concert with this concept, this album brings together a stellar cast of musicians. Simon Phillips and Greg Howe, the virtuoso guitarist who debuted on the Shrapnel label and backed Michael Jackson, have been regular contributors since the album's debut. The album also features super bassist Mohini Dey, who toured with B'z and will be performing solo in Japan in August. Additionally, Derek Sherinian, Andy Timmons, and Julian Pollack (J3PO) join the cast for a breathtaking hybrid technical battle that transcends metal, progressive, and fusion. Matt Bissonette, who has played bass in bands with Dave Lee Roth and Ringo Starr, joins the band as vocalist, expanding the range of the soundscape with his powerful yet crystalline voice. The basic tracks for this album were recorded live at Powerplay Studios in Maul, Switzerland, with DW, Simon, and Mohini. This resulted in a more raw feeling. "Every song is a journey. It's filled with heart, compassion, and prayer," says DW. A new chapter in the evolution of rock is being written. The title page will likely read "DarWin."
