Sviatoslav Richter (March 20, 1915 - August 1, 1997) was hailed as the greatest pianist of the 20th century.
Recorded in Saarbrücken, February 1988, Regensburg, March 1988, Nijmegen, October 1992
Richter's debut recital in Odessa in 1934 consisted entirely of Chopin's works, and he continued to play Chopin's works frequently, along with Schubert and Liszt, among the Romantic composers. Richter was strict in his repertoire selections, and did not even play the complete works, even though he was known for his deep understanding of each piece.
