A fusion of urban groove and sophisticated performance.
This is the debut album by the British band Incognito, which fuses elements of jazz and funk to create the prototype of acid jazz.
This album established Incognito's early style and can be considered the starting point for the later acid jazz movement. The rhythm section is sharp, and the guitar and keyboard chord progressions are sophisticated. The horn arrangements are light and create an urban groove. The recording is clear, and the positioning of each part is well-balanced. While primarily instrumental, the melodies are well-developed and exude an energy reminiscent of club music. This is a starting point that combines the traditions of jazz funk with a modern sensibility.
