The origins of Vi's guitar eccentricities revealed through unreleased recordings of his younger days.
A collection of early recordings by Steve Vai, a virtuoso guitarist. The "leftovers" are filled with a fantastical experimental spirit and humor, foreshadowing the genius he would later become.
"Flex-Able Leftovers" is a collection of Steve Vai's early recordings, based on an EP released independently in 1984 and reissued in 1998 with bonus tracks. The songs recorded during the time he was a member of Frank Zappa's band are all technically and playfully full of originality that sets them apart from existing rock and fusion. Here you can see the seeds of the "unusual sense" that would support his later solo career, with multi-tracking, odd time signatures, and unusual effect processing. Even if you're not a guitar lover, this is a work that will overwhelm you with its creativity.
