Savatage's heavy, dramatic metal has deepened with their new lineup.

This album marks a turning point for Savatage, with the addition of Zach Stevens, and features a more dramatic composition based on lyricism and a heavy guitar sound.

This was Savatage's first album since joining the band with Zach Stevens, and it clearly demonstrates their commitment to furthering the fusion of heavy guitar riffs and lyrical melodies. The title track, "Edge of Thorns," features an impressive piano introduction and dynamic development, and was widely recognized after being played repeatedly on MTV programs at the time. The album reached number 23 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums, helping to expand the band's fanbase. From a performance perspective, Chris Oliva's powerful guitar work drives the album, adding a dramatic element to their traditional heavy metal sound.
