The 3rd Symphony was recorded as part of the complete set of Bruckner's symphonies, which Georg Tintner completed in his later years.
Tintner portrays the passion and architectural beauty of this young Bruckner with a calm yet confident tempo. His interpretation, which grasps the broad flow of the music and organically connects each theme, demonstrates the depth of his understanding of Bruckner.
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra responds with crystalline strings and taut brass, maintaining the clarity of chamber music even in the midst of a gigantic scale. From the stately exposition of the first movement, the reverent serenity of the Adagio, the simple dynamism of the Scherzo, and the magnificent coda of the final movement, the whole piece is built with natural rhythm.
