From the backstreets of Tokyo to the world - Off Course breaks new ground with English lyrics.
A monumental piece of Japanese pop music, Off Course has produced an English album with an eye on the overseas market. A hidden gem with sophisticated arrangements and universal lyricism.
"Back Streets of Tokyo" was Off Course's first album with all English lyrics, released in 1985, and was an experimental attempt that conveyed their intention to reach out to the world. Kazumasa Oda's crystal clear vocals and beautiful melody lines are kept intact, but their music is reconstructed in a new context by fusing urban arrangements and singing in English lyrics. 80s-style synth sounds and drum machines are also used effectively, giving the album a sophisticated AOR/city pop feel. It is a work full of a spirit of challenge that offers surprise to domestic fans and familiarity to overseas listeners.
